Japanese stock markets closed higher in Wednesday's trading (Sept. 16), reversing earlier losses from the session. The Nikkei 225 index rose 0.69% to finish at 63,923, while the Topix index gained 0.61% to reach 4,062.
The market rally coincided with a cooling in oil prices, which helped alleviate pressure on equities. Oil prices fell following an unexpected rise in U.S. crude inventories, although concerns regarding potential supply disruptions due to conflict in the Middle East continued to loom over the market.
Meanwhile, global bond yields began to stabilize after earlier increases. Investors are now turning their attention to a series of monetary policy decisions from major central banks scheduled for this week.
On the domestic front, data showed that Japan's exports grew more than expected in August. This performance was driven primarily by strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI)-related chips, despite ongoing supply disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict.
Technology and AI-related stocks also posted gains. Taiyo Yuden and Advantest each rose 1.8%, Murata Manufacturing surged 3.2%, Fujikura added 2%, and Tokyo Electron climbed 2.1%, helping to support the Japanese market's rise by the close of trading.
