Bitcoin strengthened again during the European trading session on Friday (Sept. 18), reversing much of the downward pressure seen throughout the week. Bitcoin (BTC) recently traded around US$77,900 per coin, posting a daily gain of approximately 1–2% as investor interest in risk assets returned. The crypto market recovery coincided with improved global sentiment; pressure from the Federal Reserve's recent decisions began to subside, and investors noted positive developments regarding digital asset regulation.
A key catalyst for Bitcoin's rise was a recent move by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The agency granted a five-year exemption allowing certain platforms to trade blockchain-based shares, or "tokenized stocks." This policy is seen as a potential accelerator for integrating digital assets with traditional financial systems.
This SEC development helped the crypto market look past the failure of the Clarity Act in the U.S. Congress—legislation investors had hoped would bring greater regulatory clarity to the industry. SEC Chair Paul Atkins stated that the agency would continue developing digital asset rules through existing regulatory channels, even though permanent regulations still require legislative support.
Beyond regulatory factors, more positive global sentiment also supported Bitcoin's movement. Falling oil prices—driven by hopes for a recovery in Saudi supply—and a decline in U.S. Treasury yields eased pressure on risk assets. Investors also reacted to the Bank of Japan's stance, which appeared more cautious regarding the normalization of monetary policy.
Gains were also evident in other crypto assets. Ethereum (ETH) rose about 1.8% to the US$2,485 level, while XRP strengthened by 1.7%. Several altcoins recorded even larger gains; Solana surged approximately 5.9%, Cardano rose 8%, and BNB strengthened by 3.8%. This stronger altcoin performance was bolstered by expectations that the SEC's tokenization policy could particularly benefit blockchain networks that host digital asset ecosystems.
Newsmaker Analysis: Bitcoin’s rebound indicates that a combination of regulatory catalysts and improving global risk sentiment is drawing investor interest back in. However, the market remains focused on the direction of Federal Reserve policy, US dollar movements, and crypto regulatory developments in the United States. If global liquidity improves and interest rate pressures ease, Bitcoin has the potential to sustain its recovery momentum; nevertheless, volatility remains high as the market continues to adjust following central bank decisions.
