The crypto market trended lower during the European session on Tuesday (Sept. 15) as investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and a crucial vote on digital asset regulation in the US. Bitcoin traded around US$76,882—down 0.99%—after having reached as high as US$79,582 earlier in the session.
Pressure was also evident among major altcoins. Ethereum fell approximately 1.77% to US$2,473.99, Solana weakened 0.82% to US$100.64, and BNB dropped 1.02% to US$716.60. Dogecoin traded around US$0.0834, down about 0.6%. Conversely, XRP rose roughly 0.77% to US$1.3960, while Cardano strengthened about 0.48% to US$0.2084.
"Risk-off" sentiment remained the primary source of pressure. The US 10-year Treasury yield hovered around 5.03%, while WTI crude prices stood near US$103.6 per barrel and Brent neared US$107.8. High energy prices have reignited inflation concerns, increasing market confidence that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at this week's meeting.
Markets estimate a roughly 93% probability of a Fed rate hike on Wednesday. The combination of high yields and the prospect of tighter monetary policy weighs on speculative assets like Bitcoin, as bonds and the dollar offer increasingly attractive returns. These conditions have also prompted investors to reduce exposure to altcoins, which typically exhibit higher volatility.
On the regulatory front, attention is focused on the Clarity Act. The US Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on Tuesday, with the latest draft incorporating ethics provisions to address concerns raised by Democrats. The bill requires at least 60 votes to advance and could become one of the most significant digital asset regulatory frameworks in the U.S. if ultimately enacted.
Newsmaker Analysis: Bitcoin trading below $77,000 indicates that the market is currently more focused on macro risks than on regulatory catalysts. The Clarity Act could serve as a positive driver if it clears the Senate; however, in the short term, Federal Reserve decisions, Treasury yields exceeding 5%, and high oil prices remain the primary drivers. A hawkish tone from Kevin Warsh could add pressure, whereas a positive outcome for the Clarity Act and a more dovish-than-expected Fed could pave the way for a rebound. (arl)
