Silver prices strengthened during Wednesday's trading (Sept. 16), with XAG/USD trading around US$64.54 per troy ounce. Prices rose approximately 1.36% from Tuesday's level of US$63.67 per ounce.
This rise marks a rebound for the precious metal following earlier downward pressure. Silver's movement mirrored the recovery in gold prices, while pressure from US Treasury yields began to ease slightly.
Despite today's gains, silver's year-to-date performance remains under pressure. XAG/USD prices have fallen by about 9.21% since the start of the year, reflecting the significant impact of high interest rates and US dollar volatility.
Investor attention is now focused on the Federal Reserve's decision. Interest rate policy and comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh could determine the direction of the US dollar and Treasury yields—two critical factors influencing gold and silver price movements.
Newsmaker Analysis: The rebound to US$64.54 opens the door for silver to test the psychological US$65-per-ounce level. However, if the Fed signals further tightening and yields rise again, XAG/USD risks losing momentum. Conversely, a weaker dollar and declining yields could bolster the chances of a silver recovery.
