Silver prices weakened during Tuesday's trading (Sept. 15), extending the pressure facing the precious metal. Silver (XAG/USD) traded around US$62.82 per troy ounce, down 0.68% from Monday's close.
In the previous session, silver stood at approximately US$63.25 per troy ounce. This decline indicates that buying momentum remains insufficient to push prices back to higher levels.
Silver's performance throughout 2026 also remains in negative territory. Since the start of the year, the price of the white metal has fallen by about 11.62%, reflecting significant pressure despite persistent global market uncertainty.
Silver's price movements are typically driven by a combination of investment demand and industrial needs. Consequently, shifts in interest rate expectations, US dollar fluctuations, bond yields, and the global economic outlook serve as key factors determining the future direction of XAG/USD.
Newsmaker Analysis: The drop to US$62.82 indicates that silver continues to lose short-term momentum. As long as pressure from the dollar and yields remains high, silver's upside potential may be limited. However, volatility could rise ahead of policy decisions by major central banks. (arl)
