Iran Strikes Kuwait as Trump Sees Brief Conflict

Kuwait’s military said it was confronting missile and drone attacks from Iran on Thursday. The strikes came a day after US President Donald Trump predicted that the renewed conflict between Washington and Tehran would not last much longer.

The Kuwaiti government urged residents to follow all security and safety instructions. Explosions heard across parts of the country were attributed to air-defense systems intercepting hostile targets.

Iranian state media reported that the attacks targeted US military bases in Kuwait. There were no immediate official reports of casualties or damage resulting from the strikes.

Trump previously described Tuesday’s US strikes against Iran as a very heavy attack. Although he expects the conflict to end soon, he stressed that Washington remains prepared to launch further military operations at any time.

Iran launched retaliatory strikes after its territory was hit by the United States, targeting several US allies in the region. Jordan and Bahrain had already come under attack, while the latest strikes expanded the confrontation to Kuwait.

Reports indicated that senior Trump administration officials were trying to prevent the Iran war from escalating further ahead of the November midterm elections. The concern emerged as a University of Massachusetts Amherst poll showed that more than two-thirds of respondents disapproved of Trump’s handling of the conflict.(mrv)
