European stock markets attempted a recovery during Wednesday’s trading session (October 21) following two consecutive days of downward pressure. The STOXX 50 rose 0.2%, while the STOXX 600 gained 0.1%, with market sentiment buoyed by corporate earnings reports from both the United States and Europe.
Strong performance from several U.S. companies, including SpaceX and 3M, helped improve investor sentiment. In Europe, attention was focused on quarterly financial reports from major corporations, which are currently shaping market direction amidst broader economic and geopolitical conditions.
Shares of EssilorLuxottica surged more than 11% after reporting third-quarter revenue that exceeded expectations. Meanwhile, ASML Holding rose 2%, providing further support to the European technology sector.
However, not all stocks fared well; Carrefour shares plummeted by over 10% after the company lowered its profit forecasts and capital expenditure plans. The retailer cited domestic instability and high energy prices as factors that have dampened consumer sentiment—a sign that economic pressures remain a challenge for European stock markets. (asd)
