Dow Jones Rises After Powell's Comments and Trump Signals End to War with Iran
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose on Monday after comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell eased investor concerns about a possible interest rate hike. President Donald Trump also signaled that the end of the war with Iran may be near.
The 30-company index added 349 points, or 0.8%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 0.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.1%.
“The United States is in serious talks with the NEW, MORE REASONABLE regime to end our Military Operations in Iran,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Monday.
However, while the president added that “great progress has been made,” he also stated that if a peace deal is not reached “in the near future” and the Strait of Hormuz is not “soon” reopened, the US will “continue its offensive against Iran” by blowing up and completely destroying all of their power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all of their desalination plants!), which we have deliberately not touched.
