S&P 500 Rises as Wall Street Extends Rebound Despite Iran War Volatility
The S&P 500 advanced on Tuesday as Wall Street built on the prior session’s momentum while investors tracked new developments in the Iran war.
The broad benchmark gained about 0.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed nearly 0.3%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 92 points, or 0.2%.
Volatile oil prices and the broader fallout from the Iran conflict continued to shape investor sentiment. On Tuesday morning, oil rose roughly 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude trading back above $100 a barrel.
Even with oil higher, the S&P 500’s consumer discretionary sector stood out, up about 1% on the day, led by gains in Expedia Group and Booking Holdings. Strong revenue guidance from airlines Delta, American, and JetBlue also boosted travel-related shares.
Meanwhile, energy was the market’s top-performing sector, rising about 1.7%.
