Iran Warns Against Linking Ukraine War to Iran-US-Israel Conflict
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei warned on Monday (March 30) of the risk of misinterpretation if certain parties attempt to link the war in Ukraine to the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. He said linking the two separate crises is a strategic mistake that could exacerbate escalation and increase international tensions.
Baghaei's statement comes amid geopolitical risks on more than one front, particularly in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He added that Iran's ambassador to Lebanon will continue his duties in Beirut, a clarification amid growing political and security uncertainty in Lebanon, which is being closely monitored by the government and markets.
Baghaei also said that Tehran hopes the United Arab Emirates will treat Iranian citizens with "foresight," while asserting that Iran will protect the rights of its citizens wherever they are. The message was seen as a precautionary measure to prevent new diplomatic tensions from arising between the two Gulf states. (yds)
