Trump Chooses Economic Pressure Over New Iran Strike
U.S. President Donald Trump signaled that Washington is not looking to launch another major military strike against Iran for now. Instead, the administration appears willing to let economic pressure on Tehran continue building while keeping negotiations limited.
Trump said Iran’s economy is under severe strain from high inflation, limited financial resources, and the U.S. naval blockade. He suggested that continued economic pressure could weaken Tehran’s position without immediately escalating the conflict.
Iran, however, continues to demand major concessions before fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran is seeking compensation from the United States, the lifting of sanctions and the naval blockade, the release of frozen assets, and the withdrawal of U.S. forces from areas surrounding Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said an agreement with Oman on a temporary shipping route is “very close.” However, he stressed that such a deal would not automatically restore unrestricted commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Negotiations remain complicated because any final agreement would still require approval from Iran’s top leadership. Oman said talks were continuing in a positive atmosphere, while security risks remained high following another reported missile attack on an ADNOC vessel.
