Iran Attack on Kuwaiti Tanker Exacerbates Middle East Tensions
Iran has attacked another oil tanker after targeting a fully loaded Kuwaiti tanker in the Dubai port area, damaging the hull and causing a fire on board, according to a statement from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). The attack occurred just after midnight, and no casualties were reported among the ship's crew. KPC reported that emergency and firefighting teams were immediately deployed and are working with relevant authorities to control the situation. The attack is suspected to have caused an oil leak in the waters around the port.
This is the latest Iranian attack on shipping in the Persian Gulf, with previous attacks targeting other vessels in the region. UK Maritime Trade Operations also reported the incident, which occurred 31 nautical miles northwest of Dubai. The attack adds to tensions in a region already plagued by instability due to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, which has impacted global energy trade routes.
