Trump Extends Pause on Striking Iran’s Energy Facilities Until April 6
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is extending the pause on attacking Iran’s energy facilities by 10 days, through April 6, following a request from the Iranian government. The announcement came as major stock indexes fell and oil prices climbed.
“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He added that talks are ongoing and, despite what he called erroneous statements from “Fake News Media” and others, negotiations are “going very well.”
The original five-day pause on U.S. strikes against Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure had been set to expire on Friday. Trump first announced the initial pause on Monday via Truth Social.
The war against Iran began on Feb. 28 with strikes by the United States and Israel. The conflict has driven a sharp rise in oil prices, as Iran has effectively shut down shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global chokepoint for crude oil flows.
On Thursday, the benchmark S&P 500 fell 1.74%, its biggest daily decline since the start of 2026, as energy prices surged. Brent crude futures rose more than 5.6%, settling at $108.01 per barrel.
Earlier Thursday, Trump told reporters at the White House that the U.S. has “very substantial talks going on with respect to Iran.” Tehran, however, has denied that it is holding direct talks with Washington.
