Iran Rejects US Proposal and Sets Five Conditions to End the War
Iran has rejected a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the conflict and said it will only accept a ceasefire on its own terms, a senior political-security official told Press TV on March 25.
Speaking exclusively to the outlet and claiming knowledge of the proposal’s details, the official said Tehran will not allow President Donald Trump to dictate when the war ends. “Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” the official said.
Tehran viewed the latest U.S. overture—delivered through what it described as a friendly regional intermediary—as disconnected from what it called America’s failure on the battlefield. The official drew parallels with two previous rounds of negotiations in spring and winter 2025, which he characterized as deceptive, alleging the U.S. showed no genuine intent for meaningful dialogue before launching military action.
The official outlined five conditions under which Iran would agree to end the war:
1. A complete halt to what it called enemy aggression and assassinations;
2. The establishment of mechanisms ensuring the war is not reimposed on Iran;
3. Guaranteed payment of war damages and reparations;
4. An end to the war across all fronts, including those involving regional resistance groups; and
5. International recognition of Iran’s sovereign right to exercise authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
The official said these conditions were in addition to demands presented during a second round of negotiations in Geneva, held days before the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on February 28.
Iran has reportedly told all intermediaries acting in good faith that a ceasefire is contingent on acceptance of all conditions. “No negotiations will be held prior to that,” the official said.
The statement comes as the U.S. has sought to use regional countries to pressure Tehran to halt retaliatory strikes and allow American vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
