US Dollar

The US Dollar Index (DXY) weakened to the 101.6 level during Monday’s trading (October 26), extending the downward pressure seen over the last few sessions. Investors are exercising caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision, with the central bank widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged at this week’s meeting.
Although the Fed is anticipated to hold rates steady, the market still sees a possibility of a hike in December, as inflationary pressures have yet to fully subside. This policy outlook leaves the dollar sensitive to any signals emerging from the central bank’s official statement and the remarks made by the Fed Chair following the announcement.
Market attention is also focused on the policies of other major central banks. The European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are expected to maintain their current interest rates, while the central banks of Canada and New Zealand face pressure to consider further tightening due to persistent inflation.
On the economic front, investors are awaiting the release of the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index and the preliminary estimate of US third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP). These data points will provide an updated picture of inflationary pressures and the strength of the US economy, while also shaping expectations regarding the Fed’s potential actions in December.
Additionally, the market will be closely monitoring earnings reports from Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft to gauge the strength of demand for artificial intelligence. The performance of these major tech companies is significant, as AI-related investment has served as a key pillar of US economic growth. Should the economic data or corporate earnings disappoint, the dollar could face further downward pressure.
