Japanese Stocks Close Higher, Up 0.10%
Japanese stocks rose after the close on Monday (2/17), as gains in the Gas & Water, Electric Power and Real Estate sectors boosted shares.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.10%. The best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Express Holdings, Inc. (TYO:9147), which rose 8.29% or 207.50 points to close at 2,712.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Dai-ichi Life Holdings Inc. (TYO:8750) rose 7.93% or 345.00 points to close at 4,698.00 and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) gained 6.84% or 242.00 points to close at 3,779.00 in the last trading session.
The worst performers of the session were Dentsu Inc. (TYO:4324), which fell 13.03% or 458.00 points to close at 3,056.00 at the close. Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733) fell 9.71% or 221.00 points to close at 2,054.00 and Amada Co., Ltd. (TYO:6113) dropped 8.26% or 129.00 points to close at 1,433.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 1997 to 1,674 and 209 ended unchanged.
Shares of Dentsu Inc. (TYO:4324) fell to a 3-year low, down 13.03% or 458.00 to close at 3,056.00. Shares of Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733) shares fell to a 52-week low; down 9.71% or 221.00 to 2,054.00. Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) shares rose to a 5-year high; up 6.84% or 242.00 to 3,779.00.
Nikkei volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 5.44% to 21.11.
USD/JPY fell 0.37% to 151.66, while EUR/JPY fell 0.36% to 159.08.
U.S. Dollar Index Futures rose 0.04% to 106.62.
