The Nikkei 225 Index Closes 0.80% Higher
The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 0.96% to close at 39,277 on Wednesday, while the broader Topix Index increased 0.81% to 2,704, marking a third consecutive day of gains for Japanese shares. Technology stocks drove the rise, benefiting from strong quarterly earnings reports from major US tech companies that boosted investor sentiment. Notable performers included Disco, which surged 11.2%, followed by Lasertec at 4.4%, Hitachi at 2.3%, Advantest at 3.4%, and Recruit Holdings at 1.5%.
Other major companies also saw gains, including Mitsubishi UFJ (1.2%), Toyota Motor (0.4%), and Denso Corp (2.6%). However, policy uncertainties loomed over the market after the ruling Liberal Democratic Party lost its parliamentary majority in the recent election. The leader of the opposition Democratic Party of the People also urged the Bank of Japan to avoid significant policy changes, citing stagnation in real wage growth as a concern.
