Nikkei Edges Down; Major Stocks See Volatile Moves
Japanese stock markets closed slightly lower in Friday's trading (August 7). The Nikkei 225 index fell 0.07%, weighed down by the paper and pulp, transportation, and communications sectors. Despite the index's decline, the number of advancing stocks outnumbered those that declined.
Mitsubishi Materials was among the top performers, surging 15.71%, followed by Fujikura (+12.82%) and Bandai Namco (+10.50%). Conversely, M3 plunged 16.89%, Fujifilm fell 16.55%, and Lasertec dropped 13.55%.
In other markets, Brent crude rose to around US$83.40 per barrel and WTI to US$77.86, while December gold futures climbed to US$4,356.50 per troy ounce. The USD/JPY pair held steady around 158.36, and the dollar index stood at 99.84. (asd)
