S&P 500 Slips Friday, but Logs Best Week Since November as Fragile Iran Ceasefire Holds
The S&P 500 edged lower on Friday, but still posted a strong weekly gain as investors kept watch on the fragile two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The broad index fell 0.11% to close at 6,816.89. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.35% to end at 22,902.89, supported by gains in major semiconductor names such as Nvidia and Broadcom. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 269.23 points, or 0.56%, to finish at 47,916.57.
Even with Friday’s dip, the S&P 500 gained nearly 3.6% for the week and the Nasdaq advanced about 4.7%. Both indexes posted their best weekly performances since November. The Dow was up 3% week to date.
On the geopolitical front, President Donald Trump on Friday accused Iran of “short term extortion of the World by using International Waterways,” writing on Truth Social that Iran’s leaders “don’t seem to realize they have no cards” and that “the only reason they are alive today is to negotiate!”
