Iran Imposes Fees for Ship Transit in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has begun charging ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz for "navigation services," Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said. He explained that these services include navigation and environmental protection measures in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the Sea of Oman.
Baghaei emphasized that these fees are not tolls, but rather part of Iran's responsible measures to safeguard the safety and environment of these strategic waters.
Iran and Oman are currently drafting a joint protocol or mechanism to ensure the safety of ships during transit, in accordance with international law, so that global energy flows remain secure despite these new navigation fees. (Arl)
