Trump Claims Iran's Leader Approves Hormuz Deal

US President Donald Trump said he understood that Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, had agreed to a deal with the United States that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This statement came after Trump had previously called off plans for a new attack on Iran and said the diplomatic process had reached the highest levels of Tehran's leadership.

When asked by reporters at the White House whether Khamenei had approved the deal, Trump replied, "I understand the answer is yes." However, there has been no official confirmation from Iran. Axios also reported that final Iranian approval remains crucial, while Tehran has not yet publicly endorsed the text of the deal.

This deal is significant because it is directly linked to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route. Iran previously announced the closure of Hormuz after the US attack, raising concerns about oil and gas supplies from the Gulf region.

For the market, Trump's claim provides room for the release of geopolitical risk premiums. If Hormuz is indeed opened, pressure on oil prices could ease, the risk of energy inflation could decrease, and expectations of high interest rates could also soften. However, that impact depends on whether the agreement is actually signed and implemented on the ground.

The risk is that Washington's communications in recent weeks have often shifted rapidly between military threats and claims that a deal is imminent. Therefore, the market is likely to remain cautious until there is an official statement from Iran and concrete details regarding the mechanism for opening Hormuz, the status of the blockade, and the stages of the nuclear deal.

For the time being, this development is a positive signal for risk sentiment, but it has not yet eliminated uncertainty. The market's next focus will be Iran's confirmation, the signing schedule, the reaction of Gulf states, and whether shipping flows through the Strait of Hormuz truly return to normal. (Arl)
