White House: Trump Ready to Escalate Attacks on Iran
The White House stated on Wednesday (March 25) that US President Donald Trump would escalate attacks on Iran if Tehran did not accept that it had been "militarily defeated," as the US-Israel war entered its fourth week.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was "not bluffing" and warned Iran against miscalculation. She added that if Iran "fails to grasp the current reality" and "continues to be militarily defeated," Trump would ensure Iran is "hit harder than ever before."
Leavitt also said talks with Iran were ongoing and considered productive. This statement comes as several countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, are reportedly seeking to mediate the conflict.
On the Iranian side, a senior official told Reuters that Tehran was still reviewing the US proposal to end the war, despite its initial negative response. This statement indicates that Iran has not yet publicly rejected the proposal.
Regarding media reports that Washington had sent Tehran a 15-point plan, Leavitt said the White House had never fully confirmed the plan. He said there were "elements of truth" in the news, but assessed that some of the reports were not entirely accurate, without specifying which parts were inaccurate.
Market sentiment improved on Wednesday after reports of the plan surfaced. Global stock markets attempted to recover some losses, while oil prices weakened, on hopes that the war that has disrupted global energy supplies and fueled inflation concerns could ease.
