The Nasdaq Composite rose on Monday as investors moved back into technology stocks following last week’s sharp selloff in artificial intelligence-related shares. The tech-heavy index gained 1.1%, while the S&P 500 added 0.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished slightly below the flatline.
Semiconductor stocks led the recovery. Intel advanced 2% after JPMorgan analysts upgraded their rating on the chipmaker. Advanced Micro Devices gained around 1%, while Micron Technology rose 2%, reflecting renewed buying interest in the technology sector.
CoreWeave, however, reversed earlier gains and fell about 3% despite receiving an upgrade from Goldman Sachs. Shares of the AI cloud infrastructure company had plunged more than 25% last week, marking their biggest weekly decline since November 2025 amid concerns over the company’s debt levels.
Technology stocks came under heavy pressure last week. The S&P 500 lost nearly 2%, its steepest weekly decline since late June, while the Nasdaq dropped 4.5%, snapping a four-week winning streak.
The information technology sector also fell more than 6% last week, posting its worst weekly performance since April 2025. It was the most heavily sold global sector, with hedge funds cutting technology exposure by the largest percentage on record, according to Goldman Sachs. Monday’s rebound suggests some investors are beginning to buy the dip, although concerns over AI valuations and financing risks remain in focus.(mrv)
