Hang Seng Rises 0.8%, Tencent Leads Gains
The Hang Seng Index closed up 0.8% to 26,361.07 on Monday (April 20) in Hong Kong, reversing course after a 0.9% decline in the previous session. The gains were broad-based, with 61 of 90 stocks gaining and all sectors in the green.
Tencent Holdings was the largest contributor to the index's gains, rising 2.4%. Meanwhile, Xinyi Solar recorded its highest daily gain with a 6.2% surge, helping maintain positive market sentiment.
In terms of performance, the Hang Seng has risen 6.3% so far this month, gaining 2.7% in the last five days, and gaining 4.3% in the last 30 days. In the past 52 weeks, the index has risen 23%, about 6% below its 52-week peak on January 29, 2026, and 24.4% above its low on April 22, 2025.
In terms of valuation, the Hang Seng is trading at a P/E ratio of 13.6 on a trailing basis and 11.6 times estimated forward earnings for the year, with a dividend yield of 2.9% (last 12 months). The total market capitalization of its constituents is approximately HK$31 trillion, while 30-day price volatility edged up to 24.43% from 24.35% in the previous session, still below the 25.08% average over the past month.
