S&P and Nasdaq Edge Up
US stocks rose on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 gaining 0.2% and resuming its winning streak after a brief pause yesterday. The Nasdaq added 0.4%, while the Dow Jones swung between small gains and losses.
Investors largely shrugged off concerns over the government shutdown and turned their attention to corporate developments. Focus is also on the FOMC minutes due later in the day, which could offer fresh insights into the outlook for interest rates. The tech sector was by far the largest performer, while energy and real estate underperformed.
On the corporate front, Nvidia shares gained 1.5% and AMD rose 0.8%, extending its rally into a third straight session. Oracle went up 1.2%, rebounding from losses the day before. On the other hand, Tesla shares were down 1.6% after plunging 4.5% on Tuesday, following the launch of new Model 3 and Model Y versions priced below $40K in the US. IBM also lost 1.2%, taking a breather after a six-day winning streak.
