US Stocks Swing Near All-Time Highs
The three major averages in the US swung between small gains and losses on Monday, after closing at record highs on Friday.
Traders continued to reassess the Fed’s policy outlook following last week’s rate cut, with several officials—including Chair Powell—scheduled to speak this week. At the same time, investor sentiment was pressured by President Trump’s proposed visa measures, including a $100,000 application fee for the widely used H-1B program—a move that would significantly raise costs for companies, especially in the tech sector.
Financials and energy were the worst performing sectors while tech and communication services manged to stay in the green. Among megacaps, most were lower: Nvidia (-0.4%), Microsoft (-0.6%), Amazon (-1%), Meta (0.6%), and Broadcom (-0.3%). Apple (+1.9%) and Tesla (+2.2%), however, bucked the trend.
