Iran Opens Two-Week Safe Passage to Hormuz, Peace Negotiations with US to Held in Islamabad

Iran stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz could be opened for two weeks through coordination with its armed forces, while still acknowledging "technical limitations." Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the statement in a post on Twitter, emphasizing that traffic could be regulated through coordination mechanisms on the ground.

Araghchi also stated that Iran would halt defensive operations if attacks on Iran ceased. This signal reinforces the narrative of limited de-escalation Tehran is building, although it still links it to a halt to military action against Iranian territory.

On the diplomatic front, the state-run IRIB News agency reported that Iran and the United States will begin negotiations in Islamabad on April 10, citing a statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The talks are said to be based on a 10-point plan proposed by Iran.

IRIB said Iran has allocated a two-week period for peace negotiations, with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement. However, the same report emphasized that negotiations do not automatically mean the end of the war, and that Iran will enter the talks with "total distrust," indicating that bargaining space remains potentially tight even with the opening of dialogue.
